Post Docs and PhD Assistantships in Apex Fish Modeling

Responsibilities: Help lead a funded, multi-year project to develop a generalized, user-friendly individual (agent)-based model of sportfish growth for fisheries management in lakes and streams of the central/midwestern US. Collaborate with ecologists at Southern Illinois University (SIU), a doctoral research university in the Shawnee Hills region at the intersection of several unique ecoregions. Use outreach to teach the model to practicing fisheries biologists in the state. Evaluate efficacy of the model using a multi-system, historical database of sportfish populations in Illinois.


Qualifications: A MSc or PhD in biology, ecology, or related field. Strong quantitative skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse group of researchers in universities and agencies. Programming and software development skills a plus.


About SIU: The university is located in the extreme southern part of the state next to the Shawnee National Forest, with ample outdoor recreational opportunities. The Center is in its 70th year and has active research in aquatic conservation, fish genetics, freshwater and marine aquaculture, aquatic toxicology, and fisheries management.


Salary: Annual, recurring, 12-month stipends available; benefits included. Post-doc compensation negotiable.
